Orange County NR#10 - Hurricane Harvey

August 28th, 2017  06:06

Orange County Officials continue to monitor the situation with input from national and state organizations and will provide updates through the local news media outlets as new developments occur.

Road conditions for major roads are being continually updated and posted on the Orange County Office of Emergency Management Facebook page.  Citizens can also check for road conditions and closures at DriveTexas.org.

All Orange County public schools have cancelled classes for the remainder of the week and will resume Tuesday, September 5th.  Other school information will be published as it becomes available.

Orange County offices will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, August 29th with the exception of Emergency Management, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Jail.

Residents are still encouraged to SHELTER IN PLACE and avoid driving on the roadways due to water over the roads in some areas of the county. If you must travel, please take the following precautions:

  • Pay attention to barricades.

  • Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways and avoid underpasses.

  • Be aware of hydroplaning.

  • If you drive through neighborhoods, WATCH YOUR SPEED.  High speeds cause water to be pushed into homes, endangering property and/or lives.

  • TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!

DO NOT drive down flooded roads unless absolutely necessary to prevent water from being pushed further into yards and homes.  DO NOT block roadways with your vehicle.

BRIDGE CITY RESIDENTS are asked to make reports of water in their homes to the Police Department at 409-735-5028.
