Orange County NR#6 - Hurricane Harvey

August 26th, 2017  03:02

Hurricane Harvey made landfall earlier than expected and has weakened to a category 1 hurricane.  Harvey is expected to weaken further to a tropical depression as the day progresses. The National Weather Center out of Lake Charles does not anticipate the storm to move back out into the Gulf which is favorable for Southeast Texas.

Orange County continues to prepare for extended rain and possible flooding that may last for several days and will continue to monitor the situation with input from national and state organizations and will provide updates through the local news media outlets as new developments occur.

Orange County residents are encouraged to closely monitor the situation by visiting the National Weather Center or the National Hurricane Center online at http://www.weather.gov/srh/ and http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/news/AL092017_key_messages.png

  • With Harvey’s current location and with the predicted forecast, Orange County Officials are NOT calling for an evacuation at this time.

  • Orange County offices will be closed Monday, August 28th with the exception of Emergency Management, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Jail.

  • There are no Orange County public school closures at this time.

  • Several agencies have had reports of price gouging.  If residents suspect price gouging or believe that they may have been a victim of price gouging, they should report any alleged price gouging or scam contractors to the Office of the Attorney General at 800-621-0508 or by email: consumeremergency@oag.texas.gov.
